India: India’s first hypomanic patient treated for ‘irritable bowel syndrome’

NEW DELHI, March 22 (UPI) — India has launched the first hypomaniac treatment medication for people suffering from the irritable bowel disorder.

India’s first patient with the condition was taken to a hospital in the western city of Ahmedabad, the country’s state news agency, ANI, reported.

The drug was given to a man with a history of depression, according to ANI.

The drug has been tested in a controlled trial in Mumbai.

India has a population of about 40 million and hypomanics make up about 1 in 4 people.

More than 200,000 Indians have died of the condition.
