The cost of prescription drugs in Australia is higher than anywhere else in the world.

According to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) in November, the average Australian household spends around $11,000 a year on prescriptions, and about $13,000 on non-medicinal health items.

But there are a number of things that can be done to make a drug less expensive, according to the Aussie Medical Association.

Some of these include: lowering the cost of the drug, or its supply
